AU Ambassador: UNAMID Will Gradually Exit From Sudan


African Union (AU) ambassador in Khartoum Mahmoud Kan said that the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) will gradually  make its exit from Sudan.

Speaking to local press on Sunday he said that the United Nations–African Union joint evaluation report, which submitted to the international Security Council and African union last march about UNAMID, revealed an improvement in the Darfur situation and recommended them to leave Sudan.

He noted that the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) delegation arrived and will hold meetings with officials in Khartoum, concluding it by meet with the President of the Republic, Omar al-Bashir.

He said the visit of AUPSC aimed at finding out the security situation in Sudan, especially in Darfur in addition to visiting IDPs camps in Nartati , Shangli and Tobaya and conflict zones in preparation for submitting report to the heads of state participating in the upcoming African summit on the situation in Sudan
