Darfur Rebels are Integral Part of the Conflict in Libya: UN Report


The UN Panel of Experts on Sudan has warned that Darfur’s armed movements could become an integral part of the conflict in Libya.

The report by a UN panel of experts said “according to Libyan media, these movements had participated in military operations, mercenary and smuggling activities, established illegal checkpoints and roadblocks and have consolidated their presence in Libya”.

The report has also noted that all of the major Darfur armed groups are present in Libya, most notably, the Sudan Liberation Army- Minni Minawi (SLA-MM), Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), the Sudan Liberation Army- Abdel Wahid (SLA-AW) and other groups of more than 2,000 fighters and hundreds of vehicles.
