German stressed its keenness to strengthen relations with Sudan in all field,especially to support peace issues and encourage economic cooperation, German special envoy for crisis prevention and stabilization, Eckhart Brož said.
During a meeting in Khartoum on Sunday with Assistant Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ilham Shantair, Brož thanked Khartoum for supporting Berlin to win a non-permanent seat on the Security Council.
Shantair praised Germany’s efforts in supporting the peace process in Darfur by urging the parties to sign a pre-negotiation agreement with some armed movements.
She praised the development cooperation between the two countries, in addition to the political dialogue that culminated in the visit of the Sudanese Foreign Minister to Berlin, the results of his bilateral talks with his German counterpart, and reviewed Sudan’s role in supporting regional stability.
She also welcomed Germany’s role in the Security Council and the importance of supporting the peace process and economic and political stability in Sudan.
The two sides discussed the UNAMID exit process from Darfur, according to the time limit set for 2020, and exchanged views on measures to maintain stability after the UNAMID exit .
The German delegation included the Regional Director of the German Development Agency, the Director of the East Africa Division of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sudanese Foreign Affairs Officer, the Delegate of the Peace Mission to the UN Mission in Germany and the German Ambassador to Khartoum.
