The State of Qatar welcomed the signing of the final agreement to end the civil war and share power in the Republic of South Sudan, which was signed in Khartoum, praising the active and pivotal role made by Khartoum in bringing the views closer together and bridging the gap between the parties until they reached this important moment.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the State of Qatar looks forward that the agreement would represent a new beginning in the way of consolidating the foundations of stability and security, and through which all parties could turn a page on a war-laden past.
The State of Qatar urges all parties to the agreement and relevant regional and international institutions to cooperate and work constructively to support South Sudan and its people in order to activate and maintain the agreement and resume the development process, the statement added.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres welcomed the signing of the agreement, describing it as an important step in the revitalization of the Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan(ARCSS).
Gutteres commended the leadership of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)-led High Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) and the efforts of the Republic of Sudan to broker an inclusive political settlement of the conflict in South Sudan. The Secretary-General urged all parties to work in good faith and demonstrate their commitment to fully implement and to finalize ARCSS as soon as possible.
