Security Council to Discuss UNAMID

The United Nations Security Council will discuss the interim report of the Secretary General of the UN on Wednesday, as the Government and UNAMID prepare to implement the second phase of the mission’s reduction.
A senior diplomatic source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement to (SMC) that the Security Council will discuss the performance report of UNAMID from mid October to December of last year, besides discussing the overall security situation in Darfur, pointing that the second phase of the reduction of UNAMID comes within the framework of resolution Security Council No. (2363) of June 2017.
The source said that the second phase includes the withdrawal of military units in seven areas with the survival of the police component of UNAMID, explaining that the areas include “Word, Mstri, Sheeria, Saraf Umrah, Korma, Um Pro, and Serif.”
