Sudan Announces Largest Copper Reserves in the World


Sudan’s copper mine of Outeeb contains the largest reserves of copper in the world, according to Director General of Ariab Mining Company, Engineer, Nasrul- Eddin al-Husien.

The mine contains about 5 million tons of copper, 140 tons of gold, 700 thousand tons of zinc, and 3 thousand tons of silver reserves, with total of reserves of about USD 17 billion dollars.

During the visit of the Minerals Minister and the accompanying delegation to Hadal Outeeb minie, he announced a high level negotiations with 4 international banks, and sovereign funds for the financing of the projects of copper production in Outeeb mine.

He expected the negotiations on the project would finish by the start of the new year, and for the production to be launched during the period of 14-18 months.

Ariab Mining Company is the leading mining company in resource rich Sudan and East Africa. It has been incorporated as a multinational private mining company in 1991 in Sudan to explore, exploit, mine, process, and sell of Gold and other associated minerals.

AMC established as a successful model resulted from the governmental cooperation in the fields of geological researches between Sudan and France. At establishment the shareholdings of the company where distributed as 56% for Sudan Government and 44% for Cominor a Canadian/French Company. More recently the shareholding restructured to 95% for Sudan Government and 5% for the Industrial Development Bank
