The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has announced that it has repulsed an attack waged by Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in Al Mashaish region located 38 kilometers westward of the capital city of South Kordofan State Kadugli in a deliberate and flagrant violation of the ceasefire.
SAF said in a statement that its forces has repulsed the attacked and forced the rebel forces to flee, inflicting on them heavy loss of life and equipment, affirming that they lost one martyr and a number of wounded individuals.
The statement outlined that this aggression is a part of a series of criminal acts executed by the rebels of the SPLM-N in the past couple of days in the regions of Higeirat and Bajaeya and Abaseya Rashad road the regions of Talodi, Kalogi, Kaloya, Abu Karshla and Abu Jibeiha.
The statement said the armed forces remained restrained, while monitoring aggressive movements of SPLM- N and its exposed pursuit of exploiting the cease-fire to restore its ranks and provoke the government, and inducing it into committing acts that may affect its international pledges and commitments.
The statement has deemed that this act affirms the aggressive movement of the movement and lack of desire in peace.
The statement renewed the commitment of the armed forces to the ceasefire as this is important for realzing peace
For his part the governor of South Kordofan, Eisa Adam Abakar said, while addressing the celebration of the inauguration of a number of facilities at the medical corps in the city of Kadugli , the army has inflicted heavy losses of lives and properties and they fled away leaving behind a number of bodies.
The Governor noted that the rebels has made a new behavior with the aim of provoking the government and dragging into war to blow the peaceful condition experienced by the state
Abakar has affirmed the adherence of the armed forces to the right of defense of its positions which is holding now as per the directives of President Al Bashir
The Governor of South Kordofan what he called the stuck of armed carriers to resort to discretion and not to restore the region to fighting to preserves the lives of citizens.
The Sudanese Armed Forces remains committed to the ceasefire announced by President Al Bashir. In June 2016, President Omer Al Bashir declared a unilateral four-month cessation of hostilities. Last month, he extended the ceasefire for six months following a two-month extension declared in October.
