Sudan Condemn Incident of Assault on UNISFA Force in Abyei


Sudan has condemned the assault by unknown persons on the men of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and civilians at Ameit market in Abyei on July 16, SUNA reported.

The incident resulted in the death of five civilians from Abyei region, one peacekeeper and other was wounded.

sudan’s Foreign Ministry expressed the government sincere condolences to the families of the victims and affirmed the commitment to contribute to the investigation in the incident and bringing to trial the perpetrators.

In onnetion, the Secretary-General is saddened by the incident, conducting a routine patrol, came under attack by unknown assailants.

The Secretary-General conveys his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased peacekeeper and to the Government and people of Ethiopia and wishes the injured peacekeeper a speedy recovery. He extends his sympathies to the families of the civilians killed.

UNISFA has deployed peacekeepers to the area to enhance security and determine the circumstances behind the attack.
