Sudan Wins Membership in UNICEF Board of Directors



The United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) on Wednesday elected Sudan as a member of the Board of Directors of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for a three-year term beginning on January 2018, after being adopted from the African Group in New York.

The Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ghariballah Al-Khidir, said “This election confirms the appreciation that Sudan receives among its African brothers and their recognition of the role it plays in children’s issues”.

The UNICEF Governing Board is the governing body of the organization and provides government support to UNICEF and monitors its performance in accordance with the general directives of the UN General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, which it consists of 36 countries, including eight African countries.
