UN Official Informed about the Human Rights Situation in Sudan


The High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein, has informed about the efforts of the National Human Rights Commission in the Sudan and its role in protection and promotion of human rights, in favour of independence and impartiality required for various human rights issues.

The deputy Chair-person of the National Human Rights Commission in Sudan, Hassib Yonathan Hammad Koko, said during the meeting, which was attended by the Permanent Representative of Sudan in Geneva Mustafa Osman Ismail, and the human rights file of the Sudanese Mission Advisor Osman Arabi, said that the Commission started preparing its report on human rights in Sudan.

Yonathan reviewed the features of the UNHCR’s 2018 plan,under slogan: “Spreading and promoting the human rights message”.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights affirmed his full support for the National Human Rights Commission in Sudan to play its role in protecting, promoting and disseminating a culture of human rights.

He expressed his happiness with the participation of the Sudanese Commission in the Geneva meetings, especially the international movement for human rights, considering that this is a good step for the UNHCR in Sudan to be present in forums that support of human rights at the global level.
