US Congress Delegation in Khartoum on Sunday


Members of the United States Congress will arrive in Khartoum  for a three day visit at the invitation of the National Parliament Legislature.

The delegation will meet Speaker of the Parliament and Prime Minister Bakri Hassan Saleh, economic sector ministers, the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) and the Sudanese opposition.

The Speaker of the Parliament, Ibrahim Ahmed Omar, said in press conference that the delegation visit to Khartoum comes at the invitation of parliament, and hosted by the businessman Bashir Hassan Bashir.

He stressed that the visit of the delegation will discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries and the possibility of strengthening and continuing, and exchange views and ideas on relations in the political and economic fields between the two countries , in addition to security issues.

He added that they will bring to the delegation the issues of lifting the name of Sudan from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, especially as Sudan has been fighting terrorism, adding “Sudan had never supported the terrorist operation”.

He said that the delegation will meet with the officials of the national dialogue to determine the progress of the implementation of the outcome of the dialogue, and will meet with the US Embassy.

He referred to Sudan’s investment potential, discussed general human rights issues, and sought to remove Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

He confirmed the success of the visits between Khartoum and Washington in the recent period, pointing out the results and contributions to lifting the embargo on Sudan. He said that the meetings would also address the conclusions reached by the two parties during the last period.
